Project 4: Animated Comic

TASK

I started looking up some examples of comic pages that I enjoyed on Pinterest for some inspiration. I wanted one panel to have significantly more space than the others for emphasis on the main plot point. I also chose to illustrate the second act in the story.

After finding some references, I went onto sketching out ideas for the layout as well as figuring out how to colour the page. I wanted to go for a more horror-ish theme, therefore I really wanted to limit the palette with a red and deep black, along with small accents of green. I eye-dropped colours from the triptych illustration to maintain consistency. I also didn't include any text bubbles as I wanted the illustration to speak for itself.

Once I finished my comprehensive sketch, I moved onto Adobe Illustrator. This process once again was relatively simple as I had already planned out everything during the comprehensive sketch phase.

Once I finished up all the lineart and colours, I felt like it felt very flat so in an attempt to solve that, I added some paper and graphite textures.

Afterwards, I moved onto After Effects to animate the elements I wanted to move. I seperated the ones I wanted to move to seperate layers and then imported the whole composition. Initially, I wanted the thumb to move as well, however I felt like it was a bit overwhelming so I decided to remove it. The paper texture overlay I added also had to be removed as it couldn't be imported into After Effects.
