Video & Sound Production / Project 1
12/09/2023 - 24/09/2023 / Week 3 - Week 4
For the footsteps, it was difficult trying to find the right sound effects that
weren't too slow or 'heavy'. I eventually had to just make do and decided to
make the audio fit better with the scene by speeding it up to match the little
girl's footsteps.
For the phone call, I edited one of the dialogue clips to make it sound like
the little girl was actually talking through the phone using the 'highpass'
effect.

Project 1: Audio Dubbing
INSTRUCTIONS
Exercise 1: Audio Dubbing
- Record audio using phone
- List hard sound effects & ambience sound on spreadsheet and what time in
the video
- Apply audio transitions in the beginning and the end.
I first created a spreadsheet with what sound effects should be in the video
and when they should appear. Afterwards, I recorded the dialogue and began
searching for the right sound effects. I used Pixabay to search for the audio.

After I found all the sound effects, I imported everything into Adobe Premiere
Pro. I started with the dialogue and edited them using the pitch shifter for
each character. Then, I moved onto the ambient and hard sounds.

In class, we learnt a bit about Adobe Audition and were tasked to edit the
audio to sound like it was recorded in different environments.
To make it sound like a phone call, or in a closet, we used the parametric
equalizer and adjusted the bass, mid range and treble differently.
To change the space of the sound, we used reverb and adjusted the delay time,
perception, wet and dry channels.

REFLECTION
My experience with this task was alright. I'm not the biggest enjoyer of
editing as sometimes it can feel pretty tedious but I did have some fun
while doing this task.
Searching for the right sound effects was a little hard as I feel like some
of them were just too niche to find on the internet and it was always like
the sound effect was either too slow, too fast or just not the right sound
that I was imagining in my head. However, I think I did pretty okay with my
choice of sounds. I've found that you have to have a lot of patience while
audio dubbing.
