Project 1: Animated Infographic Poster

INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1: ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC POSTER
First thing to do was to find a poster to redesign. I was considering the 3 images below but decided to go with the last one 'Hunger Games vs Divergent' as it was the worst out of them all.

I then thought about everything that was wrong with this poster.

Issues:
1. No clear heirarchy
2. No organisation
3. Images are just copy pasted onto the poster
4. Too much information
5. Difficult to read
6. No consistency

Once I did that, I sketched out a rough idea and then proceeded to design it.

I wanted the theme of the poster to look like it was vintage propaganda as it was the common theme in the movie. I was also struggling to figure out what information to keep and which to remove, as well as how to organise them clearly.

After consulting with Mr. Fauzi, I decided to completely change the design of the poster and simplify it even further. I did struggle a lot with the layout unfortunately, but I finally settled on a design.

I decided to simplify the information as much as possible and display it so it can be clearly read. Even though it's really basic design wise, it does look a lot better compared to the original poster.

FINAL

After creating the vertical version (1920 x 1080), I started animating in Procreate Dreams. I mainly used move, scale, rotate and opacity keyframes to transition all the elements in and out of frame.

REFLECTION

My experience with this task was quite....challenging. I think I was focusing too much on making it look good instead of conveying the information clearly to the audience at first. I also found it hard to create a comparison infographic specifically as a lot of the time it can look very corporate or like it was made in the early 2000s.

In terms of animating it, it wasn't really difficult. I didn't want to go to overboard with the animation as it still needs to be readable. At the end of it now, I am quite satisfied with the final outcome. When comparing it to the original poster, I definitely feel like I did a good job at redesigning it.
