Final Project: Animated Infographic Video

INSTRUCTIONS

FINAL PROJECT: ANIMATED INFOGRAPHIC VIDEO
In the beginning of the project, we formed our group and discussed ideas for our topic. In the end, we settled on creating an awareness video for Ponzi Schemes.

After finishing our proposal slides, we discussed the script and delegated the scenes between all the members. Katelyn and I were in charge of writing the script for scene 3.

Once we finalised the script, we met up to discuss the visual direction and delegated the tasks between all the members. We also created a sheet for the script breakdown.

We decided that there would be a drawing team who would be in charge of the storyboard and creating assets for the animators to use, and an animation team who would...well animate everything.

My role was to be the voice over for Character A. I was also in charge of animating the 1st and 5th scene as well as compiling all the scenes together for the animatic. To animate, I used Procreate Dreams as it was easier for me to use than After Effects.

After I was done animating, I waited for the other animators to finish and compiled the animatic.

Then, we had our FLIP presentation where we got feedback on our animatic. Afterwards, the animators started working on the final video. I was meant to work on the 1st and 5th scene but there needed to be a transition between the 4th and 5th scene so I only worked on animating the 1st scene.

Then, I waited for the other animators to finish in order to compile everything together and add the subtitles and background music. The animator for the second scene had some issues since they have never used After Effects before so I helped fix some parts.

FEEDBACK

Week 2
Specific Feedback - Make sure the video talks about scams and then you can go into types of scams. Ponzi Scheme can be a case study. He’ll let us choose: think of who is your target audience? Ideally choose a more popular topic with a wider range of audience (suggested ponzi scheme). For next week prepare sketch of the storyboard (what is the content)

Week 3
Specific Feedback - Script: Story structure makes sense. Keep lines short (1 sentence), refine the longer/paragraph lines to be shorter. Try to simplify the script as much as possible.

Storyboard: It’s a good storyboard. From what I can see it’s a good layout, the storyline is good (feels whole?). We can pick the best (or most important) info to show if our video is over the time limit.

Week 6
Specific Feedback - In scene 1, zoom in and out when the characters are talking. Add audio to the animatic. Suggested adding credits and Taylor's logo as well as a call to action.

Week 7
Specific Feedback - For scene 3, it looks weird if you show the torse without the head and legs when zooming out.

REFLECTION

This task was....very heavy. There was an issue with miscommunication within our group which did cause a lot of tension and frustration however we all pushed forward in order to create an output. In terms of the actual work, it was quite fun for me. I have only ever animated a couple things before and none of them were using keyframe animation so this was something new.

I found that keyframe animation is quite simple and fun! I have been struggling lately with putting off work that I'm not sure I'll be good at right from the start but this task really helped me overcome it a little by just pushing me to get things done as soon as possible. I've also found that even the smallest movement can bring a lot more interest to the scene.

I've also observed that there are things you just have to let go of in order to get the work done. There will be moments of frustration but you have to put the overall needs of the group and yourself over those feelings.
